Whisper Aero Hold Opening Ceremony for New Flight Test Centre

eVTOL com­pa­ny, Whis­per Aero, a com­pa­ny co-Found­ed by Mark Moore, held a cer­e­mo­ny this week to open its Flight Test Cen­tre, locat­ed at Crossville Memo­r­i­al Air­port, Ten­nessee, reports a press release.

The con­struc­tion of this new 8,000 sq ft hangar has been made pos­si­ble via a USD1.2 mil­lion appro­pri­a­tion from the State of Ten­nessee. The build­ing should com­mence lat­er this year with intend­ed com­ple­tion by ear­ly 2024.

Those in atten­dance includ­ed Ten­nessee Speak­er of the House, Cameron Sex­ton; City of Crossville May­or, RJ Craw­ford; Ten­nessee Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion, Direc­tor of Aero­nau­tics,  John-Paul Saal­waechter; and LaunchTN Chief Invest­ment Offi­cer, Monique Vil­la. The Test Cen­tre will fea­ture high bay areas for Whis­per to test and inte­grate its propul­sion sys­tem on future air­craft as well as office spaces for onsite engi­neer­ing.

Cameron Sex­ton com­ment­ed, “This is anoth­er part­ner­ship with the state to help the city and to assist Whis­per Aero to build some­thing that’s very need­ed, that’s very unique, which hasn’t been done in Ten­nessee before.”

As part of the project, Whis­per and the Crossville Air­port, are col­lab­o­rat­ing to install high-pow­er charg­ing at this hangar for the next-gen­er­a­tion air­craft that will utilise Whis­per Aero’s propul­sors.

The Cen­tre will also pro­vide addi­tion­al space for Whisper’s grow­ing team to engi­neer out­side of its 8,000 sq ft engi­neer­ing cam­pus in Nashville and 40,000 sq ft man­u­fac­tur­ing and ground facil­i­ty in down­town Crossville.

Ian Vil­la, co-Founder and COO of Whis­per Aero, explained, ”Crossville Memo­r­i­al Air­port is not just an air­port. This is where we start­ed a lot of the test­ing for our tech­nol­o­gy; it’s where we were actu­al­ly able to inte­grate this in that hangar right there. And so this is a very spe­cial spot for us.”
